I’m E. I’m a white, suburban, mom living in the Pacific Northwest. I felt like my demographic was under represented on the internet so I’m starting a blog.
Kidding!!! I really just need a place to write down the things that are in my head about mothering two boys, being a feminist and a stay at home parent, and getting older. So if you want to read this crap then welcome. My head is full of shiny things.
So who am I? I’m a 40ish mom of two. I stay home with my kids, not because I feel a calling to, but because I’m a typical Gen Xer who became disenchanted with the workplace right after my student loans became due. Lucky for me I have an awesome husband who supports me lounging around the house writing blog posts. He did not laugh at me when I suggested this blog, which is nice of him.
I also like to make stuff, so there will occasionally be some sewing and knitting content. Sewing is a subversive act for me. First, I do not have the culturally ideal figure (in other words, I’m fat) so sewing allows me to make the clothes I want to wear and not be beholden to the retail stores. Second, fast fashion sucks. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Old Navy and Target because I’m complicated like that, but fast fashion is human rights nightmare. In addition, it’s destroying our earth with it’s wastefulness, undermining more local textile industries, and takes jobs away from actual designers.
Finally, I’m in that thing called the Sandwich Generation. My kids are still in elementary school and their grandparents are aging quickly. There may be some stuff about taking care of parents while taking care of young kids. Or not. I haven’t decided yet.
